Boardfest 'Coustic County Clash!

Boardfest is the largest youth event of its kind in the US. With a focus on action sports, music and movies, this year's Boardfest will draw over 100,000 people to Huntington Beach Pier this Labor Day weekend (August 30 - September 1).

This year's Coustic County Clash will featuring bands a from all over California and beyond.

Sponsored in part by Clear Channel's 98.7 FM (KYSR), Team MKM will select six finalists. One artist will be crowned the winner (determined by crowd response) and receive a performance slot on the festival's main stage, following in the footsteps of popular youth acts like Paramore, Cute Is What We Aim For and MTV's Alex M.

The winning band will receive a cash prize of $1,000. All finalists must play a tasteful, acoustic set.

Artists who submit must be willing to cover their own travel and should have a draw in California.

Boardfest is produced by MKM, a Huntington Beach-based firm that specializes in non-traditional public relations, experiential marketing and special event production. Boardfest '08 showcases something for every level of involvement; synergistically weaving surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding competitions, surfing and skateboarding clinics, makeovers, empowerment activities, interactive exhibits, live entertainment, music, films, fashion shows, dancing and attractions.

1st place: $20,000 record deal with Standby Records (worldwide distribution through Victory/Red)

2nd place: 6 song demo recorded at Track Six, produced by Don Debiase, and shopped by HM Management

How it works
In each of the markets listed below, there will be 8 preliminary rounds. Within these rounds, the winners will be voted for by the crowd. The 8 preliminary round winners will then face off against each other that market's final round.

Judging for the regional finals round and national finals round will consist of the Standby Records staff and guest judges from the music industry. The finalists of each market will move on to a regional finals round where they will compete for prizes and a chance to go to the national finals held at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH. Travel expenses will be paid to the artists selected for the national finals.

This year, LifeLight is teaming with other major festivals in the nationwide Christian Festival Association to bring the "LifeLight Talent Search" to LifeLight Festival 2008. The College at Oneonta is a member of the State University of New York (SUNY) system and is located between Binghamton and Albany in central New York. The college is highly selective, has a female/male ratio of 55/45, and a high number of education and music industry majors. SUNY Oneonta is currently accepting submissions from comedians for performances during the 2008/2009 school year.

CUAC Laugh In are comedy performances that take place every other Monday when classes are in session. There are 13 shows total for the 2008/2009 school year. In general, comedians perform on campus in The Waterfront- a 150 person capacity venue with a small stage. A PA system is provided. Regional and National comedians are encouraged to submit.

Selected comedians will be compensated with a flat amount of $1,000-$2,000 plus hotel and meal before show. When submitting your EPK, please realize that air travel to SUNY Oneonta is not easy, as the closest airport is 75 miles away. Artists will need to rent a vehicle if they are not local and fly into area, and should keep this in mind when submitting their performance fee.

The Toronto Blues Society invites Canadian blues acts who have not made a nationally distributed or major label recording to enter the Toronto Blues Society Talent Search. All material must have been recorded within the past two years.

For the 2008 edition, a panel will screen the submissions and choose the finalists. Each Selected artist will perform one live showcase set before a panel of judges at Nathan Phillips Square on Thursday, August 14th.

The winning act will receive a professional development package including a performance at the Southside Shuffle in September, a showcase at the Blues Summit in January 2009, a biography written by Richard Flohil, and studio time at Euphonic Sound in Toronto.

Now in its thirteenth year, this event has proved to be a launching pad for outstanding emerging talent - previous winners include JUNO and Maple Blues Award nominee the Rockin' Highliners, New Artist of the Year nominees Jake and the Blue Midnights, and Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards winners, the Ronnie Douglas Blues Band, CBC/Galaxie Rising Star David Rotundo, and Maple Blues Award nominees Wickens-Knight.

The Ryan J. Lariviere Memorial Fund is a non-profit music-orientated foundation created in May of 2003 after, Ryan J.Lariviere, a member of the band dismal, passed away. Ryan's passion for music inspired his parents to establish a memorial to honor his memory and help emerging artists gain recognition. With donations from the RJL Memorial Fund, the Music Drives Us Foundation and other sponsors, the grand prize winner will receive:

50 hours of recording/mastering time

1,000 professionally illustrated and packaged CDs

online distribution

radio promotion - featured for a month on PIXY FMs "Home Grown" radio show.
All finalists win prizes including gear and Internet services.

The Battle will feature seven original bands competing for the grand prize. The night will end with a special performance by Bang Camaro who MTV calls "The Premiere Party Band in America." All 7 slots are reserved for Sonicbids artists, with 3 alternate slots reserved as well.

The first panel of judges will be comprised of Ryan's former band mates from dismal. They will choose bands from the Sonicbids submissions to compete in the Battle. The second judging panel is comprised of industry pros who will evaluate the bands' the live performances.

This year's judges include:

Ernie Boch Jr., son of Ernie Boch and Boch motors is also the founder of Music Drives Us, a Boch family foundation that supports music education, preservation and awareness throughout New England. Though successfully running the family business has been the reward, his underlying passion has always been music. Ernie graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1982 and now sits on the school's advisory board, staying closely involved with the musical community in Boston. In 2006, Ernie brought some very talented friends together to create his own blues-rock band, "Ernie and the Automatics."

Paul Geary (former drummer for Extreme and agent to bands such as Smashing Pumpkins and Godsmack)

Anthony J. Resta (talented producer/engineer/programmer working in studios from New York to Sydney).

In addition to the Battle, 2008 marks the inception of the Bang Camaro "Rock N Roll Boot Camp" taking place prior on the afternoon of the Battle. The Boot Camp features nationally respected panelists who work in the trenches of the music business; they will share their expertise and tips for breaking in to the business and address topics such as how to put together a band the right way, booking venues, marketing, management, new media, video/TV, radio and retail information. Attendees will learn how to advance - whether musicians or manager -- with the tools they need to make it to the next level in a music career. All artists who submit to the battle through Sonicbids will receive 50% off towards Boot Camp registrations as well as a 3-month Sonicbids membership and a year of Nimbit Retail direct-to-fan sales platform and one free product setup ($105 total value). An Audiosocket video game client is seeking Rock music for a video game they're developing for the Wii platform. The game is slated to be release before the holidays in 2008. The total music budget is $60,000. This money will be paid the the licensed artist based on length of use (how much of the song they use) and frequency of use (how often they use it). Accepted genres include metal and rock.

Any artist selected will be paid for song placement. The artist will take 60% of the gross licensing fee. Audiosocket, as the licensing agency on this project, will retain 40% of the gross fee. The music will be used within the game only. If the game developer wishes to use a song for advertisement of the game (i.e. out of context use) they will need to secure an additional license for that use
